Commercial Learning Manager

£70K Basic Salary + car allowance + bonus

Our client is seeking a committed individual to manage and lead a team responsible for the successful delivery of often complex training and blended learning programmes.

Key responsibilities

  • Strategic and tactical management of the learning delivery function
  • Responsible for the financial management (P&L), ensuring a balance between high quality and profitability
  • Lead a team, ensuring direction, the right skill sets and the most effective balance between internal and external delivery
  • Achievement of growth and profit targets through successful evolution of the learning delivery business
  • Management of the learning service delivery function, ensuring quality levels meet and exceed client expectations
  • Continuously evaluate learning delivery and improve commercials
  • Ensure that the learning delivery function is streamlined and outcomes are as cost effective as possible
  • Foster effective collaboration between the learning delivery and account management teams
  • Assist in the support of the sales function, including client meetings, sales proposals etc.
  • Ensure that training and learning programmes are delivered on time and to budget
  • Identify additional revenue opportunities in conjunction
  • Occupy a role of ‘learning subject matter expert’ in relation to areas such as blended learning delivery including digital learning and virtual classroom


  • A strong knowledge of the L&D landscape, emerging trends etc.
  • L&D industry related qualifications would be an advantage (e.g. CIPD, LPI etc.)
  • A project or programme management qualification is an advantage


  • Degree level or equivalent


  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing learning delivery teams within a commercial learning solutions focused arena
  • Experience of P&L management
  • Proven ability to successful grow a profitable learning business or division
  • Training/learning operational management experience
  • P&L management and/or ownership


  • Gravitas and leadership skills within the L&D sector
  • Proven ability to manage L&D teams
  • Excellent commercial acumen, possessing P&L management experience
  • Creative and strategic mindset with excellent problems solving ability
  • Strong project and programme management experience
  • Commercial acumen
  • Excellent relationship building skills, both client-facing and internal stakeholders
  • Adept at working within tight timeframes managing multiple projects
  • A genuine passion for L&D, combined with commercial pragmatism
