A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Learning & Development leader to manage the strategic and operational delivery of a large, multi-disciplinary learning academy within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.You will oversee blended, technical and operational training programmes that build workforce capability, support organisational performance, and ensure all learning meets compliance, quality and regulatory standards. Responsibilities
- Lead the overall strategy and daily operation of the learning academy, ensuring all training activity aligns with organisational, operational and regulatory requirements.
- Develop organisation-wide training plans, TNAs, learning pathways and induction programmes to support capability development across core roles.
- Oversee the design and delivery of blended learning programmes, using digital innovation, simulation and new technologies (AI, VR) to modernise learning.
- Collaborate with internal SMEs and external partners to ensure all training content remains accurate, inclusive and engaging.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels, acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and championing academy services across the organisation.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of learning programmes, using data and insights to inform continuous improvement and provide clear reporting to senior stakeholders.
- Lead, coach and develop a multi-skilled training team, ensuring high standards of delivery and continuous professional growth.
- Promote safe and environmentally responsible working practices, and support the organisation during operational disruption where required.
Skills
- Strong background in Learning & Development within a safety-critical, regulatory or operational environment.
- Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary L&D teams.
- Expertise in blended learning design, including digital, classroom, technical and simulation-based training.
- Strong understanding of learning technologies, including AI, VR and modern digital tools.
- Ability to shape organisational L&D strategy and deliver long-term training plans.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior level.
- Strong capability in training evaluation, data analysis and demonstrating ROI.
- Experience managing budgets and external suppliers.
- Confident communicator with excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
- Highly organised, adaptable and able to manage complex workloads.
Experience
- Significant experience in LD within a regulated, technical, engineering, transport or safety-critical sector.
- Experience leading a large learning function or training academy.
- Track record of transforming traditional training into modern, blended learning programmes.
- Experience designing operational, technical or compliance-led training.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and partner with leadership teams.
- Experience implementing digital learning solutions and applying technology to enhance training delivery.
Education
- Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
- CIPD Level 7 or equivalent professional qualification is desirable.
- Commitment to ongoing CPD within the LD profession.
