Head of Business Development – Digital Learning

An exciting, newly created role joining a fast growing and innovative provider of learning solutions with a global footprint.

Leading by example in both a tactical ‘hands on’ and strategic capacity, you will be responsible for new client acquisition and driving new business revenue growth to new heights.

Key responsibilities

  • Leading the team and collaborating with key internal stakeholders to ensure that business development is approached both strategically and methodically
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing the sales team to enhance their skills and chances of success
  • Creating and devising sales and new client acquisition strategies that will drive profitable revenue growth
  • Identifying and researching key target markets for maximum revenue growth potential
  • Achieving and exceeding team revenue and profitability targets
  • Assessing channel partnership opportunities in addition to the direct sales model
  • Working with team members to create, review and approve sales proposals and responses to tenders
  • Creating a positive and results-driven environment
  • Collaborating with the marketing team to help in the development of a successful marketing plan and targeted campaigns
  • Cultivating and embedding a learning, improvement and best-practice culture within the business development team
  • Implementing well thought out commission structures that incentivise over-performance
  • Speaking at relevant seminars and conferences to raise the profile of the company with decision makers and influencers
  • Ensure a continuous improvement process relating to the generation of leads and the conversion of prospects
  • Ensuring a creative but process-driven approach to lead generation
  • Recruiting additional members of the sales team


  • Relevant qualifications desirable


  • Relevant sales and/or marketing qualifications an advantage
  • Management and/or leadership qualifications would be beneficial


  • Proven success in a formal sales leadership role, building sales teams and growing revenues
  • Demonstrable experience of coaching, mentoring and developing sales teams
  • Experience within the commercial L&D sector (ideally including blended and digital learning solutions)
  • Proven ability to lead by example, with vision, enthusiasm and gravitas
  • Significant success in previous and/or current business development roles


  • Proven ability to lead and inspire successful sales teams
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills
  • Ability to build relationships with prospects, clients, peers, managers and team members
  • First class written and verbal communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of sales methodologies and approaches
  • Strong commercial acumen (ideally with P&L experience)
  • Ability to inspire others to do better and continually improve themselves
